About

BIOGRAPHY

Born in Lewiston, Maine in 1961, Jody began fueling his imagination from an early age. His father, Claude, worked in the greenhouse industry and as a result, Jody grew up connected to the earth, water and soil. He created using accessible materials such as plasticine, broken shards of clay plant pots, dirt, socks, crayon, pencil and pen on paper- pretty much anything he could get his hands on. His innate drive to create continues to inspire his work today; work, which is influenced by both natural and manufactured form.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Landscape, rocks, brick and the passage of time (as indicated in the cycles of renewal and decay) are issues, which I address in my work through the manipulation of earth (clay). In every respect of my artistic process I seek renewal, which results in an ever-evolving change in an aesthetic choices. The Cup/Vessel series consistently changes and evolves due to the truism that ‘work’ begets ‘work’. Ralph Waldo Emerson famously said, “Life is a journey, not a destination”. My vessel series represents an artistic journey and, as a result, each Cup/Vessel symbolizes a deeply experienced moment in time en route to a non-existent destination.
